Import regulations for Canada:

These requirements are for unprocessed wood only, and do not, therefore, apply for plywood etc.

2.1 Untreated packaging wood has to be free from bark, free from live infestations and free from indications of live infestations (feeding ducts, feeding holes or blueing).
2.2 Treated packaging wood has to have been treated in on of the following ways:
» Heat treatment (56° C core temperature) for 30 minutes
» Fumigating with methyl bromide or sulphur fluoride
» Autoclave impregnation with chromium-copper-arsenic saline solution (CCA)
» Any other by the Canadian authorities approved method.

The details of the treatment have to be reported in a document (for instance: Treatment certificate, invoice), which has been certified by the national plants protection authority (NPPO).

The import can be carried out without a NPPO certified document, if a certified system for the approval and supervision of facilities for the treatment of wood exists in the exporting country. This certified system has to guarantee, that wood is treated in accordance to the in appendix 1 named methods (see above). Each wooden package has to be marked with a durable marking, officially confirmed by the NPPO. The Canadian plants protection authority has to be informed beforehand about the kind of marking.
